Axcelis increases personnel and production volumes of equipment for semiconductors
Axcelis Technologies, Inc. (ACLS) is increasing production capacity and personnel to meet the growing demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Yesterday, Axcelis announced a significant increase in production volumes and the number at its South Korean manufacturing and engineering enterprise. To accommodate the new facilities, Axcelis has built a new large clean room, similar to the company has in the USA. Also, Axcelis already has all the necessary certificates, and the latest production started delivering products in the first quarter.
First, the new production facility meets the demand of Axcelis customers in Asia. The company intends to reduce supply chain problems by placing a new production facility next to some large customers. The semiconductor market has suffered due to a shortage of components, and securities of several manufacturers have fallen in price. At about the same time, the transition to the new generation of chips continues, and the demand for semiconductors remains high. Recently, Axcelis introduced new equipment for processing large wafers for large-scale semiconductor production.
The company expects to use its technologies to modernize extensive production facilities. Axcelis is a specialist in ion implanters, which use a beam of ions to embed various materials into plates, from which chips. The company has equipment that can work with large plates (200 mm), including creating three-dimensional structures and using more diverse elements (indium, germanium, hydrogen) compared to old technologies.
