BlackBerry launches a new service for corporate Chrome OS accounts
Technology company BlackBerry Limited (BB) plans to use the growing popularity of Google’s Chrome operating system. BlackBerry is launching a new solution and expects to receive additional revenue from corporate clients. From July 2022, BlackBerry will give everyone in the world access to a new UEM tool for unified management of IT infrastructure endpoints that use the operating system and the Google Chrome browser.
The solution is intended for technical specialists who can use it to manage various tools in the Chrome ecosystem, for example, remotely deleting required data, changing passwords, installing updates, monitoring the reliability of data protection, etc. A new set of tools may be important for the long-term growth of BlackBerry. Many companies actively use Chrome solutions, and employees use Chromebooks, smartphones, and tablets with Chrome OS for remote work. This, among other things, creates problems with the protection of endpoints—the hard-to-control peripherals of corporate networks, which also include personal mobile devices of employees.
Thus, for BlackBerry, it is a large addressable market with prospects for sustainable subscription sales. The company expects that the possibilities of extended control over Chrome devices will be attractive to corporate clients. BlackBerry positions its solutions as cybersecurity tools, with an emphasis on promising unification trends and an emphasis on endpoints, which are the most vulnerable components of IT systems. Currently, BlackBerry solutions provide protection for more than 500 million endpoints, including 195 million vehicles. The competition in this market is great, and the results of BlackBerry’s efforts in the Chrome ecosystem will be an important signal for long-term investors.
