Electric Hammer may become a new hit of General Motors
Automaker General Motors Company (GM) has reported higher-than-expected demand for electric versions of the Hummer SUV and pickup truck. General Motors has already received over 65,000 orders for new Hummer brand pickups and SUVs, according to the American press.
This can be called a positive signal of the willingness of customers to buy new cars that will cost at least $ 100,000. In fact, the number of pre-orders is ahead of expectations, and this momentum will continue in the coming quarters, according to General Motors. So far, the company has not reached the required production pace to meet all requests, although sales of the Hummer EV have already begun.
That the real volume of sales of new electric vehicles will be possible no earlier than 2023 (pickup in 2024). Those who order an electric car now can count on deliveries no earlier than in 5-6 quarters. Note that General Motors is one pioneer of electric vehicles in the United States: the company launched a large-scale production of Chevrolet Bolt electric cars almost simultaneously with the Tesla Model 3.
Earlier, the management stated that it plans to invest $7 billion in the construction of a plant in Michigan, as well as in the repair of some other production facilities. It was the new workshops that allowed General Motors to establish mass production of electric pickups.
This is an extremely important project for the company, since other major players, such as Ford and Toyota, are already creating the infrastructure for the gradual transfer of the product line to electric drive. The advantage of General Motors is an enormous set of brands, some of which can survive a re—rise in popularity thanks to an eco-friendly power plant.
