Microsoft’s space cloud gets more information
Last week, software giant Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) published new details about its cloud solution for space companies. Recently Ffin.ru talked about the demonstration of the new Azure Orbital cloud service for communication with satellites and control of constellations of near-Earth spacecraft. The company revealed some details about the Microsoft space ecosystem at the Microsoft Inspire 2022 conference, which lasted from July 19 to 20.
They are by Stephen Kitay, the head of the Azure Space division. Creating a space cloud segment in the Microsoft business structure shows how important the company attaches to this direction. As Stephen China emphasized, Microsoft is creating an ecosystem of space partners with exclusive access to technical support and scaling solutions. There are already a lot of partners who are interested in working with the company on Azure Orbital. These are Airbus, Ball Aerospace, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Kratos, Nokia, SkyWatch, SpaceX, Thales Alenia Space, Viasat, and others.
Simultaneously time, the company expects to attract new partners soon. Microsoft’s “space” partners will receive Azure access bonuses and wholesale discounts. At the same time, the company will create additional IT infrastructure to support the fast-growing direction of commercial space exploration. According to Microsoft, space is crucial for the company’s business development since large amounts of data are already being transmitted and processed using satellites. The product of cloud IT in this direction is natural, and Microsoft wants to become one of the primary beneficiaries of this trend.
