TuSimple has expanded its partnership with Nvidia.
The developer of an automatic driving system for trucks TuSimple Holdings Inc. (TSP), has expanded its partnership with NVIDIA Corp. (NVDA).
The company plans to develop a more advanced entire cargo transportation system. TuSimple is one of the leaders in developing a commercially efficient cargo transportation service. The company already has test routes in the USA, and at the end of December, the company began testing cars that can drive without a person in the cockpit. The company intends to develop a level 4 autopilot in a short time.
Such vehicles can automatically respond to difficult road situations, such as performing an emergency maneuver in a potentially dangerous situation or driving through challenging sections of roads. Moreover, requirements of the legislation, autopilot level 4 can operate without the presence of a person only in some geographical regions. For TuSimple, this is not a problem since its uncrewed trucks are to be used just on prepared, lightly loaded roads between the coasts of the United States.
To create more advanced uncrewed trucks, TuSimple is expanding its partnership with NVIDIA. In particular, a new autopilot controller will. The base will be the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin SOC chip, specially designed for automatic driving systems. It is a miniature and energy-efficient but at the same time compact computing system that is suitable for processing specific data from car sensors in real-time.
The NVIDIA DRIVE Orin module can perform up to a trillion operations per second. The chip simultaneously serves as the central computer of the car. It provides video recording, a multimedia system, wireless modems, alarms, etc. Using this database, TuSimple reduces technological risks and facilitates the development time of a crewless tractor truck. Therefore, the news is a positive signal for TuSimple investors.
