Uber Technologies add new services pilot program starts in the UK

Additional services for booking tickets for buses and planes will appear on the Uber Technologies Inc. (UBER) taxi service platform as part of a pilot program conducted in the UK. If the test is successful, it will expand the services to more countries. Adding new features to its platform is a new attempt by Uber Technologies to turn into a universal “super application”.

For example, the company previously added the Explore section to the app for some of the US cities. The idea of Uber Technologies is to maximize user engagement, as it already happens with booking a place in a restaurant or buying a ticket to an event–such options are available in the Explore section. The more services there are in Uber Technologies, the more often users will open the application.

Note that the company has already seen a similar effect when it combined the UberEats taxi ordering application. A quarter of new UberEats users come from taxi app users, and 20% of new taxi users come from the UberEats service. Thus, in the future, Uber Technologies plans to make a full–cycle service that will allow users their vacation – from ordering a taxi to the airport to booking a hotel and vacation events.

In fact, the company is entering new segments, where there are already many strong and influential players. The targeted travel market is much larger than the taxi or food delivery market, so a successful expansion in this niche can give Uber Technologies a tremendous boost. It will not be easy for the company to compete with existing platforms, but it has a well-known name and user loyalty in its arsenal. This means that if the pilot program to search for air and rail tickets works in the UK, investors should expect the expansion of this offer to other regions.
