Zuckerberg’s Universe – what fate awaits Meta?
Facebook (FB), on Thursday, October 28, announced its renaming to Meta. “We will be called Meta,” said the founder of the social network Mark Zuckerberg during the presentation of the “Metaverse” company.
After the rebranding, the company changed the name of its official Facebook page. The user sees the updated name and logo in a blue Mobius ribbon when going to the page.
The changes that have occurred can minimize the image damage to Facebook. Zuckerberg is a brave entrepreneur who dared to “shoot” the brand with his own hands instead of allowing politicians and the mass media to mock him. Discussing the dissenting employee Frances Hogan’s documents to the press will be precisely like Facebook documents. Claims of inciting hatred, spreading fake news, and influencing teenagers will to the holding’s projects under their old names for some time.
On the other hand, this is not the whole truth. Zuckerberg never focused on small goals. He sincerely believes that his projects have long outgrown the idea of 15 years ago to create an online album of student photos. Another thing is Metaverse – a new generation of the Internet. There can increase the capitalization of the holding to 2, maybe 3 trillion, and catch up, or better yet, overtake Alphabet, Microsoft, and Apple.
It is not the first time Zuckerberg has taken a swing at creating a new Internet. Once he acquired the domain Internet.org and launched a project there to provide free Internet access. However, not to the entire Internet, but about a dozen sites, including Wikipedia and, of course, Facebook. However, this project encountered resistance from the authorities in the largest markets and did not take off, and success in small countries did not make too much sense for Zuckerberg. By the way, Meta will likely suffer an inglorious fate. Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and a short universe, but there are no bloody pigs with cleavers from the Piggy game on the Roblox platform – this is not what new generations need. A universe without Yuri Dudya in YouTube for adults and Nastya Kosh in Like for children is not a “Metaverse” at all. It is just Uncle Mark’s provincial world.
However, regardless of whether Meta replaces the Internet, the guideline is taken correctly. It would be correct even without the negativity that Facebook faces a long and difficult struggle. FB shares went through a high of $384 in early September and have since lost 18%. Analysts have not yet wavered – the consensus forecast is at $ 404, although they have already begun to detect a slowdown in the mobile advertising market vigilantly. Renaming Facebook to Meta distracts from the current moment. It reminds of prospects, but it will not prevent the press from harvesting the details of the company’s internal documents and politicians from looking for a reason for a big lawsuit against the company.
